Enaytayullah Hoseny agreed to take 25-year-old Matthew Blackhanson from Sacramento to Mandan for $240 up front and $1,500 upon arrival.
The two men signed a contract agreeing to the deal and then set out on the 22-hour journey.
When they finally arrived, Blackhanson's fiancée never showed up with Hoseny's money. "He started crying, 'Oh please don't call the cops. I'm going to be in trouble. I want to see my fiancée,' and this and that," Hoseny told CBS Sacramento.
Hoseny was out of gas and cash, so he spent the night in a homeless shelter. The next day, he returned to the gas station where Blackhanson had stiffed him and some compassionate folks filled up his gas tank and gave him food and cash.
He then started the long trip back to Sacramento, which should have cost Blackhanson $4,800 according to the meter in the taxi.
