FAIRVIEW, Ore., May 21 (UPI) -- An Oregon man is behind bars facing five counts of assault, criminal mistreatment and forcing a minor to take marijuana after allegedly making his girlfriend's 5-year-old daughter smoke pot and beating her because she didn't brush her teeth.

When police responded to the girlfriend's apartment in Fairview, they found the girl wearing only underwear and standing in the corner. The young girl's head was shaved and there were bruises and welts all over her body.

The mother's boyfriend, Marquise Harris-Hill, admitted that he "whipped the child at the direction of the mother" with a heavy belt "with metal protrusions," according to KOIN.

The 26-year-old was arrested and booked at Multnomah County Jail.

The little girl has been placed in foster care and her mother has not been charged with anything at this time.
