Georgia man allegedly hands police officer beer instead of driver's license during stop

DUNWOODY, Ga., May 5 (UPI) -- A Georgia man is facing eight charges, including DUI and reckless driving, after he allegedly handed a police officer a beer instead of his driver's license during a traffic stop early Saturday morning.

Dunwoody officer Alvin Rodriguez reportedly pulled Damon Tobias Exum over after the 37-year-old struck the cop’s vehicle on I-285 westbound.

When Rodriguez approached Exum’s vehicle and asked for his driver’s license, the “heavily intoxicated” suspect handed him a beer, police spokesman Sgt. Fidel Espinoza told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Exum, who has been arrested for DUI in the past, was “totally unaware that he had collided with the officer’s patrol car,” Espinoza said.

Rodriguez was not injured during the crash.

“The driver was intoxicated and not making the best decisions,” Dunwoody officer Tim Fecht told the New York Daily News.
