Six charged after Ohio students allegedly fight jogger during school trip to cemetery

ZANESVILLE, Ohio, April 30 (UPI) -- An Ohio high school student has been expelled after he allegedly fought a jogger along with four other students during a school trip to a cemetery in Zanesville.

During a school-sanctioned walk at Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville Community High School student Larry Hamilton allegedly fought jogger David Roush after the two exchanged words because rocks were being thrown at cemetery signs by ZCHS students.

The 18-year-old reportedly charged the 45-year-old runner after he challenged the students to “meet him at the top of the hill.” Roush struck first, but Hamilton “had accepted the challenge and was ready to engage,” Zanesville Police Chief Ken Miller told the Times Recorder.

While the two were wrestling, another student allegedly kicked Roush in the ribs and three other students threw things at him.

Hamilton and Roush have been charged with disorderly conduct and Hamilton has been expelled from ZCHS. The 17-year-old student who reportedly kicked Roush has been charged with felonious assault and could be expelled, while the other three students have been charged with various misdemeanors and suspended from school.

Roush was treated for a collapsed lung and bruised ribs at the hospital and released.
