The video, which was uploaded to Instagram by user lilbubs, shows Marcus Crossland appearing to kick his 6-year-old son down a ramp at Kona Skate Park in the Arlington neighborhood of Jacksonville, Fla.
The video quickly made the rounds on social media and now the DCF is getting involved.
"We do not consider this to be appropriate behavior," said DCF spokesperson John Harrell.
Crossland and his son, who is known as a skateboarding “prodigy,” are a fixture at Kona.
"Unfortunately parents get so enthusiastic about their kids and their abilities in skateboarding, or baseball, or football or whatever and sometimes they take it a little too far," the park’s operator, Martin Ramos, told First Coast News.
"He [Crossland] said he was just caught up in the moment," Ramos said. "He seemed very remorseful. He certainly understands the gravity of the situation and it seems like he is going to be answering to this thing for quite some time to come.”
Crossland has been asked not to come back to Kona.
