Steve Hurst is hoping that using firearms and grills on a campaign float will let his constituents know that he is serious about gun rights. Hurst, who is seeking reelection in District 35, has a unique-looking parade float that is actually a gigantic barbecue shaped like a gun. Advertisement Rep. Under the updated law, Alabama homeowners can legally shoot intruders instead of attempting to flee. His main challenger in the GOP primary on June 3 is Steve Dean. Hurst has served in the Alabama House of Representatives since 1998.
