March 27 (UPI) -- A Florida college student who went out for a kayak trip off of Delray Beach got a ride from an unexpected source -- an 11-foot hammerhead shark.

Florida Atlantic University student Adam Fisk posted the video of his surprise journey on YouTube with the title “Lone Man Gets Towed for Miles in Kayak By 11 Foot Hammerhead Shark.”

The shark went after a piece of bait and got snagged on a small hook that Fisk was using to fish. After the shark took control, the 2-hour ride took Fisk from the Boynton Inlet to Lake Worth.

“I’ve hooked sharks, but not that big and never on purpose,” Fisk told the Palm Beach Post. “It was about 11-foot and my kayak is about 12.”

According to Michael Stroschein, manager of Jim Abernathy’s Scuba Adventures in Lake Park, Fisk should cut the shark loose if it ever happens again.

“There’s nothing you can do if you’re fishing and hook the shark. The most important thing is to unhook the animal as soon as possible. No matter what you doing, you’re doing injury to the animal -- at the very least stressing it out,” Stroschein said.

At least Fisk got an entertaining video out of his adventure. “Since I had the camera rolling I thought I’d try for the best video I could get to show my friends,” he said.
