Creepy Staten Island clown is most likely just a big joke

"It's a small island and we've been trying to get as many people associated with Fuzz on the Lens as possible," says man who was likely involved in hoax.

A creepy clown supposedly scaring Staten Islanders on the streets and making the rounds on social media may actually just be part of a publicity stunt.

The clown, who has been photographed wearing a yellow clown suit, white puffy collar, red nose and face paint, has only been “seen” by a few people.

The Staten Island Advance reported that three of the people who posted images of the clown -- Vincent Innocente, Robert Privitera and Michael Leavy -- are all Facebook friends. The three men also have links to Staten Island-based Fuzz on the Lens Productions.

Another man who put out a video of the clown, comedian Vic Dibitetto, also allegedly has ties to the company.

"I think he's funny and this whole thing (is funny), so if people want to think it's me or whoever I won't stop them, maybe I should go get a clown suit though, hopefully they are not sold out,” Leavy told the Advance when he was asked it the clown was a hoax.

He admitted a little bit more when the Facebook link was mentioned.

"It's a small island and we've been trying to get as many people associated with Fuzz on the Lens as possible," Leavy said.

The Staten Island clown bears a resemblance to Pennywise the Dancing Clown from Stephen King’s “It.”
