That's an awkward CNN endorsement.

Fox News contributor Lauren Ashburn was discussing media coverage on Sunday when she endorsed Fox's competitor by saying that she turns to CNN if she wants "to know about news."

"CNN is of course, as you say, primed for this." said Ashburn on CNN's coverage of Malaysia flight 370, "They have amazing news resources across the country that can cover this but what's happening is that CNN is taking it to the next level and it is becoming dominant. We are missing all other stories like the CIA spying scandal, Ukraine has been knocked off the front page. But if I want to know about news, I do turn to CNN because it's 24/7."

This is not the first time CNN has taken criticism for obsessively covering a news story. They faced similar comments during the trial of George Zimmerman and the trial and death of Michael Jackson. However, the strategy for their coverage of missing Malaysia Airlines flight 370 seems to be effective because along with inadvertent endorsements from competitors, the New York Times reports that their ratings have soared since their coverage began.

Fox News is not immune to this habit of non-stop coverage, as they have been criticized for their coverage of the Benghazi terrorist attack and the problems with the Affordable Care Act. Despite the criticism, CNN president Jeff Zucker probably bemusedly appreciates Ashburn's endorsement.
