Family dogs missing since Chicago burglary back at home

CHICAGO, March 14 (UPI) -- A pair of French bulldogs that vanished during a Chicago burglary are back at home after being found wandering a neighborhood.

David Wilk said the home he shares with his husband, Charlie Gurion, was broken into Tuesday and their French bulldogs, Rue and Pierre, were missing along with several electronic devices, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday.

"A man headed home from the laundromat found them near Humboldt Park just before the snowstorm hit Tuesday night," Wilk said. "He saw a Craigslist ad I posted about our dogs and reached out to me."

Wilk said the man took the dogs home and contacted him Wednesday when he spotted the Craigslist post the couple put up about the missing dogs.

Wilk said he and Gurion were despondent while the dogs were missing.

"I was like, 'Literally, my spirit is cracked, I don't know how we can move forward if we don't have the dogs," Wilk said. "They are like our kids; we felt like two of our kids were kidnapped."

"We immediately just started bawling when we saw them," Wilk said. "Pierre fell asleep in Charlie's lap on the way home. I can tell Rue is a little timid right now. I feel like she's a little traumatized from being out in the cold, but she's coming around."

Wilk said the man who recovered the pooches declined any reward.

"He didn't want a gift at all," Wilk said. "But we are going to back and give him some sort of cash reward."
