Florida man manufactures 'Cowasaki' motorcycles out of animal bones

The name of a Florida man’s “Cowasaki” motorcycle is not a misspelling.

For more than 10 years, Orange City resident Reese Moore has been using animal bones to manufacture motorcycles.

His latest chopper, the Cowasaki, is now debuting in an Ormond Beach showroom as part of Bike Week 2014. The $55,000 creation is made from four cow skulls and bones from alligators, raccoons and pigs.

“I just love working with bones,” Moore told the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

The 65-year-old has never ridden a motorcycle, and if he ever does, it won’t be one of his custom choppers because they are strictly for decoration and don’t actually run.

Moore started making the bikes after he tried “do something cool for Halloween” for his sons and made them dinosaurs out of animal bones. When a bar owner asked him for one, he did him one better.

“I was kidding and said, ‘I’ll build you a motorcycle for Bike Week,’” Moore said. “I took that as a challenge. In about three or four days I called him up and told him he could pick up his motorcycle.”

Moore's latest creation is now on display, and for sale, at Dunn's Attic & Auction House in Ormond Beach.

In addition to the showroom, Moore’s choppers can be found at spots like a museum in Georgia and Ripley’s Believe It or Not. “They’re probably the most photographed motorcycles in history,” he said.
