When Dylan heard his best friend was sick, he wanted to help him get better so he came up with the plan to write a children's book and use the proceeds to help pay for Jonah's medical treatment.
"I heard that Jonah had a disease and then I felt bad for him that he had to drink corn starch every day and always check his blood and do all this stuff every day." said Dylan.
GSD causes Jonah's blood sugar levels to drop to fatal levels if not monitored. His parents follow an around-the-clock schedule of feeding him through a tube to make sure his levels remain safe.
The two boys have known each other since preschool and "chocolate bar" is what they say when they think something is awesome. Before the amazing success of the "Chocolate Bar" book which has raked in over $750,000 so far, funding for University of Florida's Dr. David Weinstein's research into GSD was falling flat. Weinstein hopes this will push them much closer to a cure.
The book is being sold in 45 countries and the proceeds are being combined with the Pournazarian family fund to hopefully reach their goal of $1 million.
