PORTLANDMarch 11 (UPI) -- An Oregon family called 911 for help after their 22-pound house cat went on a rampage and trapped them in a bedroom on Sunday night.

The Portland family claims that their fat cat, a large Himalayan named "Lux,” attacked their 7-month-old baby. Lee Palmer then struck the cat and it went berserk.

"I kicked the cat in the rear and it has went off over the edge and we aren't safe around the cat," he told KATU.

The family and their dog hid out in the bedroom and called 911. Here’s a part of the transcript:

CALLER: “He’s charging us. He's at our door, our bedroom door.”

DISPATCHER: “One moment, OK?”

CALLER: “Do you hear him? That was the cat.”

DISPATCHER: “Yeah, I hear him. Keep the door shut, OK?”

Police arrived and were able capture the cat with a snare and stash it in its crate.

"He was on top of the fridge, and then when something like that turns around and follows you, you're kinda getting backed up," said the cat's owner, Teresa Barker. "It's kind of a small space in here, so yeah, it was very frightening."

Officer Timothy Bocciolatt responded to the call. "The cat did not want to get back in the cage, that was for sure. He wanted to be free at that point,” he said.
