HIALEAH , Fla., March 7 (UPI) -- Mama didn’t say “knock you out” -- she tried to do it herself.

A Florida mom was arrested and charged with battery after video footage of an altercation she had with a student at her daughter’s middle school was posted on the Internet.

Irisdaly Rios, 35, was at Hialeah Middle School on Tuesday when she witnessed a fight between her daughter and another 6th grade girl. According to the arrest report, Rios got out of her car and began a verbal altercation, which escalated into physical confrontation.

“She got out of the car and saying she was going to hit or or whatever. She started holding and touching her and then she backed away, she approached her and started swinging,” eighth grader Damian Portal, the student who taped the incident, told CBS Miami. “It was crazy.”

Both combatants suffered scratch wounds during the fight, at the very least.

“This girl bullies my daughter every day," Rios told NBC Miami, when asked about the girl with whom she fought, 12-year-old Ashley Perez.

"She got aggressive, and I think she felt her daughter was in danger," Perez said. "I've got scratches on my back, my teeth is broken, and my head started hurting a lot.”

Police are stressing that this is not the proper way to handle bullying.

"Everybody loses here,” said Hialeah Police spokesman Carl Zogby. “We'd rather people go to the proper authorities if there's bullying going on. Go to your school. Call the police before it gets to this point."
