Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe LOS ANGELES, March 7 (UPI) -- Los Angeles transport officials said a blind man evaded death and serious injury when he fell from a subway platform and into the path of an oncoming train. Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Paul Gonzales said the 47-year-old blind man was on the subway platform at the Wilshire/Vermont station when the operator of the incoming Red Line train noticed the man was getting close to the edge of the platform and honked the train's horn, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday. Advertisement However, the horn came too late, and the man fell onto the track bed and disappeared beneath the train as it stopped. The Los Angeles Fire Department said the man was rescued about 20 minutes later and was found to have escaped serious injury. Gonzales said the man had fallen between the rail and the base of the subway platform, allowing the train to pass right over him. "It really is a miracle," Gonzales said. "It's something you only see on TV." The man was taken to the Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center, where doctors said he is expected to make a full recovery.
