SONORA , Calif., March 5 (UPI) -- Three California third-grade students at Sonora Elementary School didn’t get in trouble for bullying someone at recess or talking back to their teacher -- they were popped for smoking pot in a bathroom.

Even more surprising, the two 8-year-olds and one 9-year-old had their own pipe. Another student saw what was going on and told school administrators.

“We saw the three kids get taken out of the bathroom, but that is all we saw,” seventh grader Mary Montano told KTXL.

The police were called and the students were later released to their parents.

“It was bad because they are little kids and it shouldn’t happen,” seventh grader Mackenzie Morfoot said.

According to Sonora Elementary School Principal Chris Boyles, the students could possibly be suspended or expelled under California’s Education Code.

“Shocked. To be in third grade and have their own pipe,” parent Linda Rodriguez said. “I think they should be expelled, but I also think they should follow it further to where they found (the marijuana).”
