Swedish town slogans mention Picasso, state plain facts

SKURUP, Sweden, March 4 (UPI) -- Some of Sweden's oddest town slogans include a city's attempt to associate itself with Picasso and another town's plain, "a place to live."

TheLocal.se said it went over the town slogans for all 290 Swedish municipalities and selected some of the most interesting, including the town of Kristinehamn, which was awarded the "Biggest name Drop Prize" by for its slogan, "Picasso chose Kristinehamn -- you're welcome too."

The "Best Use of Rhyme/Honorary Poet" award went to Lidingo, for its rhyming slogan, "En skin, gron o," which translates to the far less poetic "a fine, green island."

Nykoping's slogan was dubbed the "Most Boring" by TheLocal, for choosing to advertise itself with the plain, "A place to live."

The city of Flen gave Nykoping a run for its money, winning the "Least Imaginative" prize for its slogan, "A municipality."

The town of Skurup, which chose an English phrase as its slogan, was given the "Best Overall Slogan" prize for the sentiment, "When in Europe, don't miss Skurup."

The "Worst Slogan" prize was given to Fagersta, which promises newcomers "You get a life sentence here." The town, which has no prisons, adopted the slogan to be a play on words meaning both "time to live and time to actually enjoy your life," TheLocal said.
