LOS ANGELES, March 3 (UPI) -- Academy Awards host Ellen DeGeneres set a Twitter record when her star-studded selfie taken at the ceremony was retweeted more than 2 million times.

DeGeneres tweeted the photo during Sunday night's ceremony and challenged viewers to help her set a record by retweeting the picture, which featured actor Bradley Cooper holding the camera pointed toward himself with stars including DeGeneres, Meryl Streep, Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong'o in the background, CNet reported Monday.

The previous record Twitter picture was a "Four more years" image posted by President Obama to celebrate his re-election victory in 2012. The picture was retweeted more than 78,000 time and favorited about 295,000 times in 15 months.

DeGeneres' photo was retweeted more than 2 million times and favorited more than 900,000 times just 2 1/2 hours.
