According to the victim’s husband, Vijay Sharma, Hercules the parrot started acting funny whenever his nephew Ashutosh visited during the days after the Feb. 20 killing.
“During discussions too, whenever Ashutosh’s name was mentioned, the parrot would start screeching,” Vijay told the Times of India. “This raised my suspicion and I informed the police.”
After he was interrogated, Ashutosh confessed to killing Neelam and the Sharmas' dog.
"We checked his call details and took him in custody. He accepted his crime and informed us that he was accompanied by an accomplice. They had entered the house with the intention of taking away cash and other valuables,” said Shalabh Mathur of the Agra police.
Ashutosh reportedly killed the dog because it was barking but never thought about taking out the parrot.
"We got a lot of help from the parrot to zero in on the murderer,” Agra senior superintendent of police Shalabh Mathur told the Hindustan Times.
