Python slithers into Swedish woman's speakers

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Police in the Swedish capital said officers were able to capture a python found slithering around a woman's apartment.

Sodermalm police said the Stockholm woman called authorities Friday to report a snake was in her apartment, and the serpent hid inside a set of speakers before officers arrived, TheLocal.se reported Friday.

The officers were advised by officials at the Skansen aquarium to put the entire speaker into a bag and deliver it to the animal park.

"We then decided to offer the snake a dead, delicious mouse right by the hole of the loudspeaker. It finally poked its head out and we grabbed it," said Jonas Walhstrom, managing director of the aquarium.

The snake was identified as an Australian carpet python, a non-venomous snake popular among pet owners. Police said the snake may have escaped from another apartment in the same building and entered the woman's residence through a ventilation shaft.

Police said the snake is considered "lost goods" and will remain at the Skansen aquarium until it is claimed by an owner. If the animal is not claimed, it might stay at the aquarium or it might be donated to another zoo, officials said.
