PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 28 (UPI) -- An Oregon woman who designated a "Wishing Tree" in her front yard said hundreds of people have written their wishes on tags and hung them from the branches.
Nicole Helprin, a Portland mother of two, said she got the idea for the "Wishing Tree" from a post on the San Francisco blog Superhero Journal in November and she put a few tags on the tree before leaving town for the weekend, KGW-TV, Portland, reported Friday.
Helprin said she returned to find the number of wishes on the tree had multiplied, and it has since gathered hundreds of wishes from passers-by. She said she placed a sign, clipboard and a plastic bag filled with blank shipping labels on the tree so members of the public could add their wishes.
She said the wishes placed on the tree include dreams to feed the homeless, bring about world peace and have more time to play Xbox games.
"I have a seven year old," Helprin said in response to the Xbox wish. "I can relate to that."
Helprin said her own wish is simple, and so far it is coming true.
"I wish it continues to bring happiness to the neighborhood," Helprin said.
