Bird crashes through windshield of small plane

Feb. 24, 2014 at 4:48 PM

FORT MYERS, Fla., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- A Florida pilot said he landed his small plane in a field after a bird crashed through its windshield and sent bits of plastic and electronics into his face.

Rob Weber said he was flying about 170 mph over Fort Myers recently when a bird crashed through the windshield, throwing debris into his face, WINK-TV, Fort Myers, reported Monday.

A camera onboard the Piper Saratoga plane shows how Weber remained calm and was able to land the craft on Page Field while bleeding from a minor cut on his forehead.

Weber, who refused medical treatment, said he was lucky he was not knocked unconscious during the incident as he was alone on the plane at the time.
