Police: Airing out home led to $12,500 jewelry theft

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla., Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a woman who left her windows open to air out her home arrived home to find $12,500 worth of jewelry had been stolen.

Boynton Beach police said the woman was trying to get stale air out of her home but ended up getting rid of $12,500 worth of jewelry when someone apparently climbed through an open window and burglarized the house, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Friday.

The woman told police she left the windows open when she left around 8:30 a.m. Thursday and arrived home about 5:30 p.m. to find the inside of the house had been ransacked.
