Robert McKevitt was working the second shift at Polaris Industries’ warehouse in Milford when he put $1 into a vending machine and selected a Twix. When the bar got stuck, he tried again.
“I was, like, ‘Oh, man,’” McKevitt told the Des Moines Register. “So I put in another dollar, and then it wouldn’t do anything.”
When McKevitt, 27, couldn’t dislodge the bar by rocking the machine back and forth, he allegedly tried using the forklift. According to state unemployment compensation records, McKevitt used the massive tool to drop the machine at least six times onto the concrete warehouse floor and was rewarded with three candy bars for his efforts.
He was confronted by a supervisor and fired five days later.
McKevitt denied lifting and dropping the vending machine and said he only used it to move the candy-dispenser back into place after he shook it. “That machine was trouble,” he said. “They fired me, and now I hear they have all new vending machines there.”
