MOSCOW, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A Russian survey released ahead of Valentine's Day indicates nearly half of the country's adults are currently in love with someone.

The Levada Center said Tuesday it interviewed 1,600 adults from across Russia for the survey, which found a total 48 percent of respondents reported being in love, with 56 percent of men expressing romantic feelings and 40 percent of women feeling the same emotion, RIA Novosti reported Tuesday.

The Levada Center said 46 percent of respondents said they were not bothered by couples engaging in public displays of affection, compared to 33 percent in a similar poll in 1998. Ten percent of respondents in this year's poll said it made them happy to see people kissing in public.

Some respondents were not as forgiving of public kissing, with 12 percent saying it made them feel outraged, 11 percent saying they get irritated and 8 percent saying it made them feel ashamed.

The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
