NEW YORK, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- An athletic border collie named Kelso was declared the winner of the first competition opened to mixed-breeds at the big Westminster dog show in New York.

Kelso took the blue ribbon Saturday night in the first annual agility competition organized as part of the venerable Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

The competition, which included dogs sprinting through an obstacle course, made headlines in the United States because it was the first time mixed-breed mutts took part along with the purebreds.

WCBS-TV in New York said Kelso was among some 200 canine competitors in the event.

Kelso, by the way, is a purebred.
