Kenny Thompson, a mentor and tutor, said he took action after he heard about a Utah incident in which dozens of students, whose school lunch accounts were delinquent, had their food confiscated and thrown away. Advertisement "I know that's probably a situation at my school and the school my son goes to, and other schools I mentor at, so I came in and inquired about it," Thompson said. He learned many children at Houston's Valley Oaks Elementary School could not afford the 40 cents per day for a hot lunch and were receiving cold cheese sandwiches instead, so he paid their bills to bring the accounts of 60 children to zero, KPRC-TV, Houston, reported Friday. "These are elementary school kids. They don't need to be worried about finances. They need to be worried about what grade they got in spelling" he added. "The best money I ever spent."
