GAINESVILLE, Ga., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- A truck carrying live chickens overturned Monday in Gainesville, Ga., making it impossible to cross some of the lanes during rush hour, officials said.

Chata Spikes, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Transportation, said the truck overturned just before 6 a.m. Monday on U.S. 129 near the intersection of Athens Street in Gainesville, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday.

"Pilgrim's Pride will come out to retrieve their chickens," Spikes said just before 6:30 a.m. Monday.

Spikes estimated the northbound lanes would be closed for three to four hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage from the lanes.

All lanes of the road opened shortly before 9 a.m., the transportation department said.

There were no reports of injuries from the crash. The department did not comment on the cause of the incident.
