76,000 pounds of beef ribs burn in semi-trailer truck fire

Jan. 27, 2014 at 3:00 PM

LUDLOW, Calif., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Authorities in California say a semi-trailer truck carrying 76,000 pounds of beef ribs caught fire, causing a portion of freeway to be closed for about 2 hours.

San Bernardino County Fire Department spokesman Al Franco said the trailer was engulfed in flames after its rear tires caught fire while traveling near Ludlow in the westbound lanes of the 40 Freeway, leading the westbound portion of the road to be closed for about 2 hours, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, Ontario, Calif., reported Monday.

Franco said firefighters reported the blaze had a "wonderful BBQ beef rib odor to it."

The spokesman said the truck had been carrying the ribs from Flagstaff, Ariz., to Los Angeles.

Franco said no injuries were reported from the fire and the incident remained under investigation.
