Local authorities ordered the clinic in Seoul's Gangnam district to remove the tower and pay a $2,793 fine for a violation of medical waste disposal rules, the Chosun Ilbo reported Thursday.
The sculpture -- made from 2,000 bone fragments and bearing the names of the 1,000 patients they came from -- was reported to authorities after the clinic posted a picture of it online. The bone fragments came from the jawbones of patients looking to have their faces slimmed.
Officials said the owner of the clinic told the district office he was not aware the sculpture violated the law and it has been removed. They said the clinic will not be subjected to a police investigation as the owner has agreed to pay the fine and the tower had been encased in plastic to prevent direct contact with the public.
