Police: Man made up robbery story after tryst interruption

Jan. 21, 2014 at 3:08 PM   |   Comments

UNIONTOWN, Pa., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Police in Pennsylvania said a man who fled a home nearly nude due to an interrupted tryst made up a fake story about a robbery to explain his state.

Uniontown police said Keith Metts, 19, of Uniontown was having physical relations with a woman early Sunday when her boyfriend arrived at the house at 2:46 a.m. and chased Metts out without his shirt, pants, shoes, hat, watch and necklace, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Tuesday.

Metts pounded on a nearby door and called for help. The resident told police Metts claimed to have been robbed by four men in an alley.

Metts was found walking with a blanket and jacket given to him by the resident and he told police he had been walking home through an alley when four men attacked him and took his clothing and jewelry.

Police followed Metts' bare footprints in the snow and found "not a single sign of struggle," the police report said. An officer responding to a report of a disturbance at a nearby home was given Metts' clothes and jewelry by a woman, who said he had fled without the items when another man interrupted their encounter.

Metts, who was being treated by paramedics after he started vomiting, was shown his clothing by the officer and told that police did not believe his story.

"Metts was having relations with [the woman]," police wrote in the report. "[The woman's] boyfriend arrived and caught them. [The boyfriend] then chased a half-naked Metts out of the house."

Metts came clean about concocting the story, police said.

"I asked Metts if any part of my theory was incorrect," an officer wrote. "Metts advised me that it was not."

Metts was taken to Uniontown Hospital to receive treatment for an injury to his right arm suffered when he fell while fleeing the house. It was unclear Tuesday whether he would face charges for making up the robbery story.
