Man hit by car while delivering papers, ends up inside car

MANITOWOC, Wis., Jan. 20 (UPI) -- A Wisconsin man said he doesn't hold any grudges against the driver who hit him while he was delivering papers and drove off with him stuck in the windshield.

Steven Gove, 56, said he was heading home Saturday night from delivering the Lakeshore Chronicle newspaper on his three-wheeled delivery bicycle when he was hit by a car around 8:30 p.m. and found himself crashing through the vehicle's windshield, WLUK-TV, Green Bay, reported Monday.

"My entire torso was inside the car," Gove said. "Well, when I realized I was in his car, I said, 'Hello! How do you do? I'm the guy you hit on the bicycle.'"

However, Gove said the driver, a 20-year-old man, drove another block to his home and locked the car from the outside before realizing there was a man in his windshield.

"Then he saw me sitting in his car and he said, 'Who are you?' What are you doing in there?' I said, 'I'm the guy you hit on the bicycle. I went through your windshield!'" Gove said.

Gove, who was not seriously injured, said he was able to climb out of the car.

Police said Gove and the suspect, whose name was not released, were both treated for minor injuries at local hospitals.

Gove said he does not bear any ill will toward the driver.

"I don't hold any grudges. It was an accident," Gove said. "But I just don't understand why he didn't see me."

The suspect was charged with causing injury while driving drunk, hit and run, and failure to render aid. He spent Saturday night in jail and was released on bail Sunday.
