SANTA ANA, Calif., Jan. 14 (UPI) -- Police in California said they arrested a burglary suspect who allegedly fell asleep at the foot of his victims' bed while stealing from their home.

Santa Ana police said a local man told police he was sleeping in bed with his wife when he felt something touch his leg and awoke to find Ruben Diego Ortega, 20, a man he knows from the neighborhood, sleeping at the foot of their bed, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported Tuesday.

The victim chased Ortega from his home and soon discovered cellphones and a PlayStation gaming console had been stolen. The man told police he went to Ortega's home, confronted the man and retrieved his stolen property.

The man called police and Ortega was arrested.

"The suspect ... admitted to seeing the window in the house open and decided no one was home and went in to see what he could steal," police said in a statement. Ortega "said he was crawling out of the house with the property and must have fallen asleep."

Ortega was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail.
