VILLAPENE, Spain, Jan. 14 (UPI) -- A Spanish couple apologized after their friends stole a road sign from Villapene, which translates to Penisville, to use for a photo at their wedding.

The sign was tracked to the wedding by locals who set out to investigate the disappearances of signs from their village and spotted one of the signs being used as a prop in a wedding photo posted to Facebook, TheLocal.es reported Tuesday.

The groom explained his friends had taken the sign because he is originally from Villapene and they wanted to use it for the wedding photos.

"They meant to return it the day after the wedding but they either forgot or were just too lazy," the groom told the La Voz de Galicia daily.

"There was no real malice but I'm sorry to the people of Villapene for all the hassle," he said.
