FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 13 (UPI) -- A professional BMX stunt rider shocked witnesses by riding his bicycle over the 24-foot-tall arches of a Texas bridge.

Mat Olson, who said his goal is to compete in the X Games, said a crowd of astonished onlookers had formed on the ground when he finished his ride across the arches of the West Seventh Street bridge in Fort Worth, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported Monday.

"It seemed like I was on top of a mountain," Olson said. "It was all windy and crazy when I was up there. It was pretty exhilarating, that's for sure."

Olson said the crowd included some police officers.

"By the time they got out of their cars, I was already halfway across it," he said. "They were more astonished than anything: 'I can't believe you're alive right now. Are you kidding? Why are you doing this?'"

Olson, who said he consulted with an attorney prior to his stunt so he could be prepared for any possible charges, said the police let him go with a warning.

"I think I kind of smoothed them over," Olson said. "They said: 'To be honest, we're glad you're alive. We don't want to see that on our watch. Tell your friends we'll be watching out for this and we won't be lenient the next time.'"
