Jan. 13 (UPI) -- Residents of Boise, Idaho, will have the privilege of attending the Internet Cat Video Festival when the traveling show comes to town this weekend.

No, really.

Although it’s easy to mock the 75-minute show, it's proven to be the cat’s meow after the first festival, held two summers ago in Minneapolis, attracted 10,000 people.

The second installment of the festival was held at the Minnesota State Fair last summer and people actually paid for tickets.

“Over 11,500 paid over $20 to watch cat videos!” said festival producer Scott Stulen. “Depeche Mode was the night before. We outsold them by 2,000 people.”

The festival, which is accompanied by the hashtag #catvidfest on social media, has previously appeared in Chicago, Memphis, Portland, Vienna, Athens and even Jerusalem.

“There’s something really special about watching cat videos in a social environment,” Stulen told the Idaho Statesman. “I think that’s something that’s kind of lost; we’re disconnected on our phones, and we’re all on our computer all the time, however we still crave real physical connections ... and that’s kind of what this is all about.”

Believe it or not, alcohol is served. “It doesn’t hurt at all,” Stulen said.

Altough Boise residents are encouraged to attend the event at the Knitting Factory, people are not supposed to bring their feline friends.

“No!” Stulen said. “They shouldn’t. One, most venues won’t allow that. And two, most cats don’t want to be in that environment.”
