San Diego Chargers declare 'bolo tie Friday'

SAN DIEGO, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- The San Diego Chargers are inviting fans to show their team spirit by following Philip Rivers' lead to don bolo ties.

The team's website said Chargers fans are invited to show their support for the team and quarterback Rivers by donning the southwestern-flavored neckwear Friday and posting pictures to Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag "#BOLOTieFriday."

The website said the team's favorite pictures will be posted to the site's "fan photo wall."

The bolo tie has experienced a resurgence among Chargers fans in recent weeks after Rivers began wearing the accessory to the team's last few road games, which all ended in victory for the San Diego team.

Karen Hawks, manager of the Boot Barn in San Diego, said fans have been coming out in droves seeking bolo ties.

"We can't keep enough bolo ties in the store," she said. "We have actually had to call to our neighboring stores and bring them in. They're just selling like hotcakes."
