MALDEN, Mass., Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Massachusetts lottery officials said a couple who thought they won $50,000 from a scratch ticket were shocked to learn they had won $50,000 per year for life.

Massachusetts State Lottery spokeswoman Beth Bresnahan said Jeremy and Rabina Lockett of Malden came to the Massachusetts State Lottery Headquarters to claim their prize from a $20 "Lifetime Spectacular" ticket they purchased from Stop N Gas Inc. in Dorchester, the Boston Globe reported Thursday.

Bresnahan said the couple were expecting a $50,000 prize, but they were shocked to find out the prize was actually $50,000 per year for life, with a guaranteed minimum 20-year payout amounting to $650,000 after taxes.

"They went nuts," Bresnahan said of the couple, who she said started dancing around the lobby.
