Former child seat safety hotline now a phone sex line

DENVER, Jan. 8 (UPI) -- A former child seat information line operated by the Colorado State Patrol has become a phone sex line, but some organizations are still listing it.

The Colorado Children's Hospital and the Colorado Department of Transportation, which list the state patrol's child seat safety hotline as 1-877-LUV-TOTS, said they were unaware that the line is no longer in use and the number has since become a phone sex line, KDVR-TV, Denver, reported Wednesday.

The groups, which list the number on their websites, said they are investigating the matter.

Colorado State Patrol spokesman Mike Baker said the number was established in 2002 to advise parents on child car seat safety information, but an informal directive went out to stop using the number in 2008 when it started having glitches and all partners were told it was no longer in use in January 2012.

Baker said the number became a phone sex line at some point after the start of 2012 and the state patrol has no control over use of the number.
