Window smashed at candy warehouse, no sweets stolen

HESPERIA, Calif., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- The manager of a California candy warehouse said surveillance video recorded two men breaking a large window, but nothing was stolen.

Candy Crate operations manager Randi Caporale said the security cameras recorded two men wearing hooded sweatshirts breaking the window at the Hesperia warehouse and fleeing early Friday, but the men did not enter the warehouse and they did not steal anything, the Daily Press in Victorville reported Monday.

She said the men were likely scared away by the security alarm.

"Not even a Blow Pop was taken," Caporale said. "We are in the middle of nowhere so maybe they thought they'd come in and get their candy on."

Caporale said San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies from the Hesperia station quickly responded to the alarm at the warehouse.

"Hesperia deputies were here in under three minutes," she said. "I was very impressed they responded so quick."

Caporale said the would-be thieves must have been candy fans, as not much cash is kept at the location.

"In November 2012 we had a break-in and the whole cash register was taken," Caporale said. "We only kept $100 in the register then and we don't do that now. I don't know what they were after."
