WEYMOUTH, Mass., Jan. 2 (UPI) -- A former police officer in Massachusetts said a man walked into his restaurant while it was open for business and walked out with his 250-pound cash safe.

Kevin Hynes, who worked for 10 years as a Weymouth police officer before running his Stockholders restaurant and two other eateries in the city, said a man came into Stockholders during business hours Sunday, walked downstairs to an employees-only area and walked back out of the store while concealing a 250-pound safe in a trash bag, the (Quincy, Mass.) Patriot Ledger reported Thursday.

"What upsets me the most is how certain people in the world take advantage, so to speak," Hynes said. "I just feel bad that there are people out there that would do something like this."

Capt. Richard Fuller said surveillance footage depicts a white or Hispanic man wearing a black winter hat, red sweat pants and a beige jacket.

"I've never seen something like this in an open restaurant where someone walks out with a safe," Fuller said. "It's different."

Fuller said there was a "significant" amount of cash in the safe. Hynes said it was "enough to hurt."
