Officer Nicole Grant said the $200 storm drain covers, which are designed to handle excessive rainfall in areas prone to flooding, were taken from the Roxbury, Hyde Park, Jamaica Plain and Mattapan neighborhoods in a string of thefts beginning Nov. 30, the Boston Globe reported Wednesday. Advertisement Grant said she did not know the motives for the thefts and police currently have no leads. Police in other U.S. jurisdictions have said people steal the items to sell for scrap. Police are asking residents with information about the thefts to contact investigators.
