ROME, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- An Italian tourist visiting Rome said he was threatened by associates of a "living statue" street performer when he failed to leave a tip.

The 39-year-old man said he was visiting the Roman Forum with his mother around the Christmas holiday when he paused to take a picture of a "living statue" performer who appeared to be levitating while sitting motionlessly on a hidden platform supported by a pole, the Daily Telegraph, Britain, reported Tuesday.

The man said he started to leave the area and was quickly surrounded by five associates of the performer who threatened him for failing to throw a coin in the man's pot.

The man and his mother fled the area and contacted police, who arrested two men and a 17-year-old boy.
