Fred Walters, 90, of Wyandotte, said he will spend his Christmas Day anniversary the same way he spends every day, visiting his wife, Betty Lou, 87, at the Applewood Nursing Center in Woodhaven, where she has lived since suffering a stroke, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday. Advertisement "I come every day," Walters said. "From 12 o'clock noon till 8 o'clock at night. Seven days a week. Fifty-six hours a week." Fred, who is nearly blind, and Betty Lou, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease and rarely speaks, renewed their vows at the nursing home during a ceremony last week. "It's kind of like he's her mouth, and she's his eyes," hospice chaplain Jack Van Acker said as he officiated the vow renewal. "I promise to stay by your side, as your faithful spouse, in sickness and in health, in joy and sorrow, through good times and bad," Fred Walters vowed. "I further promise to love you, comfort you, encourage you, cry and laugh with you and to cherish you as so long as we both shall live." Advertisement Fred said he was unable to narrow down the thing he loves most about his wife. "Everything from the top of her head to her feet," he said.
