DENVER, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Denver police said a woman caught in the Denver Zoo's elephant enclosure during a Christmas event was hospitalized due to extreme intoxication.

Police said the woman raised concerns about possible electrical shock Monday night when she was spotted sitting next to electrical wires inside the zoo's elephant enclosure during the Denver Zoo Lights event, KUSA-TV, Denver, reported Tuesday.

KMGH-TV, Denver, reported police responding to the report of a "possible electrocution" found the woman had not been shocked, but was lit up with extreme intoxication.

The woman was taken to a "nearby hospital due to high level of intoxication," the police report said.

The zoo released a statement Monday night.

"At around 8:55 p.m., on December 23, 2013, Denver Zoo security was alerted that a disoriented woman was found inside an animal yard in the zoo's Toyota Elephant Passage exhibit. No animals were in the yard at the time. The woman was transported for medical care. Denver police and Denver zoo are talking to guests to determine what happened," the statement said.
