Canadian man gets parents 'Miracle on 34th Street' moment

SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island, Dec. 23 (UPI) -- A Prince Edward Island man said more than 17,000 people sent Christmas cards to help him give his parents "a 'Miracle on 34th Street' moment."

Mark Enman said he and his sister wanted to do something special for their parents, Don and Bev, who are both living with advanced dementia at a Summerside nursing home, so he asked Facebook users to help him recreate his mother's favorite scene from "Miracle on 34th Street," the scene where dozens of letters to Santa are delivered to a courtroom, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported Monday.

"I kind of put the two things together -- her love of Christmas cards and that scene," Enman said.

"I said, 'Let's give Don and Bev, my parents, a "Miracle on 34th Street" moment.'"

Enman said he hoped his Facebook page would help him get a few hundred cards, but more than 17,000 arrived, some coming from as far away as South Korea and New Zealand.

Enman said his mother particularly appreciated the surprise.

"It made her smile. And that's what this was all about. To bring my parents a smile for a holiday when they haven't had one for a long time," he said.
