ATLANTA, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- Authorities in Georgia said an interstate ramp was closed early Thursday when a truck overturned and spilled a load of hams onto the roadway.

Rive Vargas, the driver of the truck, said he was hauling the hams to Texas when he ran into trouble before 4 a.m. on the ramp from Old National Highway to Interstate 85 southbound in southern Fulton County, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Thursday.

"I didn't see no signs that there was a curve," Vargas said. "Going 40 mph and trying to find the turnoff to 85 and when I saw the arrows, I tried to brake."

Vargas said he suffered only minor injuries from the crash.

"I'm OK," he said. "I just banged my head against the door when it flipped over and kind of cut it."

The Department of Transportation said crews were working Thursday to upright the truck and clear the hams from the road.
