PASADENA, Calif., Dec. 19 (UPI) -- A beagle who became famous for surviving an Alabama gas chamber will march in the Rose Parade in California with his New Jersey owner.

Animal charity the Lucy Pet Foundation said Daniel, the "miracle" dog who survived being gassed at an Alabama shelter in October 2011, will travel to Pasadena with owner Joe Dwyer to take part in the New Year's Day Rose Parade, the (Newark) Star-Ledger reported Thursday.

"With Daniel as a spokesdog it will ... help raise awareness" about the use of gas chambers in animal euthanasia, Lucy Pet Foundation director Betsy Martin said. "We're really trying to stop the gas chamber in all states."

Dwyer said Daniel makes regular appearances at fundraisers for animal rescue organizations and rallies aimed at ending the use of gas chambers. A law banning the use of gas chambers was named after Daniel and passed last year in Pennsylvania.

"Daniel's story continues to have an incredible influence," Dwyer said.
