Jail X-ray finds stolen necklaces in suspect's stomach

CLEARWATER, Fla., Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said an X-ray designed to keep contraband out of the jail discovered two stolen necklaces in a suspect's stomach.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said Joseph Bravo Ramos, 21, was pulled over Dec. 11 in Clearwater while driving a sport utility vehicle deputies determined to be stolen, the Tampa Bay (Fla.) Times reported Wednesday.

Ramos was arrested on charges of grand theft, driving without a valid license and reckless driving. He was taken through the SecurPass X-Ray at the Pinellas County jail and deputies noted a "large dark mass" near his stomach.

Ramos admitted he had swallowed two stolen gold necklaces. The necklaces were determined to have been stolen during a Dec. 10 home burglary in Safety Harbor.

The necklaces, worth an estimated combined total of $450, were removed surgically. Ramos faces additional charges of burglary and tampering with physical evidence.
