MSU students raise money for car-flipping victim

EAST LANSING, Mich., Dec. 10 (UPI) -- A Michigan State University student whose car was flipped by revelers after a football game said strangers raised more than $3,000 toward a new car.

Steven Ripley, 22, said his 1995 Honda was flipped outside of his East Lansing apartment early Sunday following the Michigan State University football team's victory over Ohio State University, the Lansing (Mich.) State Journal reported Tuesday.

Ripley said he received a second shock Sunday when he discovered a fellow MSU student, Karen Wood, had started a fundraiser for him on website GoFundMe after hearing about his situation.

"I couldn't describe it. I was at a loss for words that people would support me like that," Ripley said. "I basically experienced every spectrum of love and hate of humanity on that day."

Wood, who had never met Ripley, said she started the GoFundMe page "as an apology for the students in this community who did it."

The page surpassed its $3,000 goal Monday afternoon.

Ripley said the damage to his Honda is extensive enough to consider it lost, but the raised money will help him in his search for a replacement car.
